The newly unveiled Suzuki GSX-8R brings a breath of fresh air to the mid-range sports motorcycle segment at the Milan Motorcycle Show, combining traditional design with the latest technologies and promising an optimized riding experience with its innovative engine and sophisticated frame design, which will be available on the roads from spring 2024.

EICMA – home of future dreams on two wheels

Milan, the hub for motorcycle enthusiasts, witnessed the unveiling of the Suzuki GSX-8R, a machine that has the potential to redefine the mid-range sports motorcycle category, according to Suzuki.  A glance at the GSX-8R’s key data reveals that Suzuki has placed great emphasis on a synthesis of sporty performance and everyday riding pleasure with this model.

The aesthetics of speed: Suzuki’s design philosophy

The external appearance of the GSX-8R reflects a tribute to the GSX-R series, which is over three decades old.  Nevertheless, Suzuki is clearly looking to the future with the current design. The front end is characterized by sharp contours and two hexagonal LED headlights that emphasize aerodynamic efficiency.  The full fairing follows the principle of airflow optimization, which led to a reduction in drag and improved high-speed stability in wind tunnel tests.

The heart of performance: the engine

The drive of the GSX-8R is based on an in-line two-cylinder engine with 776 cc, which offers an output of 83 PS (61 kW, 82 hp) at 8,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 78 Nm at 6,800 rpm.  The special firing order, resulting from a 270 degree crankpin offset, gives the bike powerful torque and ensures excellent traction.  The Suzuki Cross Balancer contributes to improved smoothness and increased agility.

The characteristics and sound are reminiscent of a V-twin.

Innovative technologies for safety and comfort

Suzuki has equipped the GSX-8R with the Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.), which supports the rider with a range of advanced assistance systems.  The Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) system offers three riding modes with different performance profiles.   The traction control system (STCS) effectively prevents the rear wheel from spinning and can be regulated in three stages or deactivated.

Another advance is the bi-directional Quick-Shift system, which enables upshifting without a clutch and thus ensures smooth acceleration without interrupting traction.  When downshifting without the clutch, the blipper function comes into play, which harmonizes seamlessly with the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) and thus guarantees smooth and controlled downshifts.

Comfort is a top priority on the GSX-8R, which is underlined by the Low RPM Assist.  This automatically raises the engine speed as soon as the motorcycle is set in motion, which is particularly helpful when starting off from a standstill and when riding slowly in heavy traffic or when maneuvering.  The Suzuki Easy Start System rounds off the package by reducing engine starting to a simple push of a button – without the need to operate the clutch lever.

Frame design for optimum riding pleasure

The design of the chassis is characterized by a torsionally rigid steel frame that offers precise tracking and comfort at the same time.  The SHOWA upside-down fork and the uniquely shaped aluminum swingarm are designed to ensure sensitive response and stability.  The lightweight cast aluminum wheels, fitted with specially adapted Dunlop RoadSport 2 radial tires, complete the handling package and guarantee grip and precise steering.

Rider-centered technology and ergonomics

The advanced lighting and the full-color 5-inch TFT multifunction instrument panel round off the technological package.  The clear readability of the display and the programmable shift light are evidence of Suzuki’s commitment to providing the rider with intuitive control and overview.

Availability and price

From spring 2024, the Suzuki GSX-8R will be available from authorized Suzuki dealers in the colors Metallic Triton Blue, Metallic Mat Sword Silver and Metallic Mat Black No.2 from a price of €9,800 (in Germany) excluding additional costs.
