Recall: KTM North America recalls certain Husqvarna and GasGas models due to brake problem

KTM North America has announced a recall for certain Husqvarna and GasGas models.  The reason for this is possible material defects in a specific front brake caliper that was only installed in certain model years and models.  According to the company, the irregularities affect a batch of brake calipers from a supplier.  Specifically, there is a risk of a crack developing in the upper guide pin holder, which could impair braking performance.

Affected models and production periods

According to current information, a total of around 5,116 motorcycles in the USA are affected, which corresponds to around one percent of the units produced.  The affected vehicles are from different model years and production periods, whereby the chassis numbers (VINs) are not consecutive.

The following models are part of the recall:

  • Husqvarna FE 350s (model years 2022 to 2024)
  • Husqvarna FE 501s (model years 2022 to 2024)
  • GasGas ES 350 (model years 2024 to 2025)
  • GasGas ES 500 (model years 2024 to 2024)

The production periods for these motorcycles are between January 13, 2022 and October 11, 2023 and June 27, 2023 and May 16, 2024.

The affected VIN ranges are:

  • VBKUAG40XNM252726 to VBKUAJ409RM459739
  • VBKGCG404RM213160 to VBKGCJ405SM463249

However, these chassis numbers are not consecutive, which is why an individual check is necessary.

Cause and previous effects

The faulty brake callipers originate from J. Juan, a supplier of brake systems.  According to the official recall notification, “irregularities were found in the casting structure of a sub-supplier of the brake manufacturer.”

At the time of the recall notification to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were no reports of injuries or fatalities related to this problem.

Procedure for the recall

KTM North America will notify its dealers of the recall between February 10, 2025 and July 13, 2026.  Affected vehicle owners will be notified between April 7, 2025 and April 24, 2026.

Vehicle owners are encouraged to contact an authorized KTM, Husqvarna or GasGas workshop for a free inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the faulty brake caliper.  If the affected brake caliper is installed, it will be replaced with an improved version.

Contact options for affected owners

Affected owners can contact KTM North America directly for more information:
