Oruga Unitrack: a futuristic all-terrain electric motorcycle

The year 2024 could herald the era of an extraordinary motorcycle that is already causing a stir even before it goes into production.  We are talking about the Oruga Unitrack, a motorcycle developed by a Latvian team and billed as the world’s first “all-terrain e-monotrack”.  Its special feature is the combination of electric drive and an innovative design, which should enable it to tackle almost any terrain.

Technical details and design

The Oruga Unitrack is powered by an electric motor with an impressive 90 kW (approx. 120 hp, 88.5 kW).  The motorcycle is also planned in two versions: a lighter version weighing 150 kg and a heavier version that will weigh 300 kg.  Depending on the version, both models will offer a range of up to 100 km (62 miles) as a pure electric motorcycle and up to 200 km (124 miles) with hybrid technology.  The top speed is given as around 97 km/h (60 mph), although top speed is of secondary importance for a motorcycle of this type.

The really special thing about the Unitrack, however, is its design, particularly the design of the tread.  With a larger contact area than traditional adventure motorcycles or off-roaders, it should have significantly more traction and grip.  This enables the Unitrack to navigate sand, deep mud, rocky climbs and snow – terrain that conventional motorcycles often struggle with.

Environmentally friendly and quiet

As a purely electrically powered vehicle or as a hybrid model, the Oruga Unitrack is also designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable.  The electric drive ensures low-noise movement, which is particularly advantageous in regions close to nature, as the wildlife is disturbed less.

Availability and further information

Although the Oruga Unitrack is not yet available for test drives, the development team is in the process of developing a working model and is already accepting deposits and inquiries from distributors.  Further information on the project and its progress can be found on the manufacturer’s official website and social media.
