Historic record and royal honor
Dunlop made history last year when he surpassed his uncle Joey Dunlop as the most successful rider in the Tourist Trophy with four victories at the TT. With a total of 29 victories, he drew level with the long-standing record holder, and with his fourth triumph he finally surpassed him. In recognition of this achievement, a bend on the legendary Snaefell Mountain Course was named after him – a rare honor in the world of motorsport.
At this year’s TT 2025, Dunlop left no doubt about his exceptional status: with four more race wins, he increased his total number of victories to an impressive 33. This not only cemented his position as the most successful rider in the history of the Tourist Trophy, but also set an example of endurance and consistency in one of the most dangerous motorsport competitions in the world.
Personal words from an exceptional talent
In a statement on his social media channels, Michael Dunlop commented on the award: “It is a great honor to be included in the King’s Birthday Honors List and to receive the MBE. I have spent years overcoming all the ups and downs that life has thrown at me. No matter how big the challenge, I have always given 100 percent, both on and off the track.”
He added: “To be recognized in this way is a privilege that cannot be put into words. From the beginning, I have driven myself to become the best rider I can be, with the goal of becoming the greatest at the Tourist Trophy. At the same time, I have always been proud to keep the Dunlop name at the top of the sport. This journey has not been easy, but the results speak for themselves.”
He concluded by thanking all his supporters: “I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has been involved: my team, my sponsors, my family, my friends, and the fans who have stood by me throughout this time.”
A dynasty on two wheels
Michael Dunlop comes from one of the most famous racing families in road racing. His father Robert Dunlop and his uncle Joey Dunlop shaped the scene for decades. With his performance, Michael is not only following in big footsteps, but redefining a legacy that is deeply rooted in Northern Irish motorsport culture.
