KTM’s new generation of RC models come with a racing-inspired design. But the suspension and modern electronics, which have not yet been seen in the supersports segment of this displacement class, are also expected to impress.

New look

Most noticeable is the new look, the familiar and visually polarizing headlight of the old model has been modified and swapped for one reminiscent of the Duke’s headlight. The turn signals and the position light have been integrated into the fairing.

Almost every part of the fairing has been redesigned. In total, the two models RC 125 and RC 390 have grown. In doing so, KTM deliberately wanted to make a visual statement and also improve aerodynamics at high speeds. To better showcase the redesigned steel trellis rear frame, the rear fairing has been kept as minimalist as possible.

The bodywork is attached with a newly developed mounting system, making it easier and faster to swap out for a race fairing. This is not the only place where KTM shows that the two entry-level models are also suitable for trips to the race track.

The tank has grown to a volume of 13.7 liters, offering greater range and suitability for everyday use.  Brake and clutch levers are adjustable.

Drive

Propulsion is provided in each case by a EURO5-compliant liquid-cooled 1-cylinder 4-stroke engine with dual overhead camshafts, four valves and electronic fuel injection. The two models have more torque thanks to new and 40% larger air filter boxes. The engine mapping has also been changed on the RC 390.

KTM is currently holding back on exact performance data, so it can be assumed that nothing has changed in terms of peak power.

Put on a diet

Weight saving was the main focus for the RC series for 2022. The new rims saved 3.4 kg, the new brake system from ByBre saves 960 grams and the optimized frame 1.5 kg.

Equipment

Damping is provided by an adjustable open-cartridge upside-down fork and an adjustable WP APEX shock absorber. On the RC 390, the compression damping can be adjusted on the left and the rebound damping on the right over 30 clicks each. The preload can be adjusted on the shock absorber, and a 5-click adjustment is available for the rebound damping.

The smaller sister model RC 125 also gets an open-cartridge upside-down fork type WP APEX, but without adjustment options. The shock absorber offers a split-piston function.

The new two-piece instrument cluster can be linked to the KTM MY RIDE app.

Equipped is the new RC range with Supermoto ABS, cornering ABS and cornering MTC. A Quickshifter+ is even offered as an option.

The new models are expected to be at KTM dealers from March 2022.
