Years ago, KTM announced that they would no longer be releasing a supersports bike for the road, as these bikes were too powerful and dangerous for the road. But now it looks like a bigger supersports bike is coming again, even if not with extreme power.
RC8 C race track bike
Back in July 2021, KTM unveiled a new supersports bike, the RC8 C, but it was built purely for the racetrack. The RC8 C was designed in collaboration with Krämer Motorcycles, which specializes in race track motorcycles.
Only 100 of the race bikes were offered, which, despite the steep price of $38,999, sold out within 5 minutes.
Road-going version sighted
The colleagues from MOTORRAD have now seen a test bike that looks very much like the RC8 C in street trim. Accordingly, it is not quite so radically designed for the racetrack. The frame, the swingarm, the braking system, the TFT display and the spoked wheels seem to come from the 890 Duke. The swingarm, however, appears to have been tweaked a bit to provide more room for the exhaust.
The headlight is reminiscent of the previous RC390 with the two recessed lenses. Since the RC390 has only recently been updated and the headlight design has also changed, it can be assumed that this is only a temporary solution that will certainly not be used in series production.
In the LC8 C, the engine of the 890 Duke R produces 128 PS, and the dry weight of the racing motorcycle is given as 140 kg. In the Duke R, the engine produces 121 PS and 99 Nm. Presumably, the performance in the street SuperSports bike will be somewhere in between. The dry weight will certainly at least reach the 189 kg of the Duke R.
