Only a few days ago, rumors spread that the KTM 200 Duke should also be released in the American area. Registration with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has now surfaced.
Â
The model was therefore registered with the emissions agency for the US market and is even listed as a model for 2020. So it will probably be released later this year.
The Baby-Duke is equipped with a 199cc four-stroke single-cylinder that produces 25 hp and offers a torque of a good 19 Nm. The dry weight is given as 140 kg or 308 pounds.
However, the model is not really new. It has been on the market in Asia for almost ten years. Small-volume motorcycles are often used there for everyday travel. In the North American markets, however, motorcycles count more than luxury and hobbies that are used for Sunday rides.
Â
It remains to be speculated why the small Duke may now conquer the American market. Probably an even cheaper model (compared to the 390 Duke) should bring people to two-wheelers, for whom the associated costs were previously too high.
Perhaps KTM will reveal more about the reasons for the official launch of the KTM 200 Duke for America. However, publication on the European market remains extremely unlikely since the motorcycle does not really fit the usual displacement and license classes.
