With the new Challenger Indian wants to raise the bar for American motorcycles. It is intended to fundamentally renew the definition of the Bagger class.

“The Indian Challenger delivers a new level of performance for riders who understand that the seemingly small details make a huge difference,” said Reid Wilson, Vice President of Indian Motorcycle.

PowerPlus engine

The drive of the Challenger has already been presented. Indian’s first liquid-cooled Big Twin has 1,769 cc, 122 hp and a torque of 178 Nm. It has overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and can be controlled via three selectable driving modes. The new powertrain has a six-speed gearbox and true overdrive.

Equipment

In addition, the Challenger is equipped with premium components. It has cruise control, full LED lighting, ABS, keyless ignition and weatherproof saddlebags with a capacity of 68 liters.

The frame-mounted fairing is equipped with an adjustable windscreen and adjustable ventilation openings.

Chassis & suspension

Stability and ride comfort are ensured by the lightweight cast aluminum frame, the upside-down fork and the hydraulically adjustable shock absorber. The Challenger have radially mounted Brembo brakes.

As original equipment Indian decided for the Metzeler Cruistec.

Three different models

The Challenger comes in three different variations. In addition to the Challenger there will be the Challenger Limited and the Challenger Dark Horse. The last two models are equipped with an intuitive Smart Lean technology. The system includes dynamic traction control, cornering ABS and drag torque control. The systems are controlled via a Bosch IMU.

Also, the Indian RideCommand is installed in the two models. “This is the largest and most adaptable touchscreen information system on two wheels,” says Indian. Important vehicle information, weather and traffic information can be viewed on the seven-inch screen. One can connect via Bluetooth and USB. Fast response times are ensured by a quad-core processor.

Indian has some original Challenger accessories to customize and personalize.

“While we are grounded in our iconic history, we are focused and driven to break new ground and establish a higher standard for riders; and the Challenger is a testament to that,” said Steve Menneto, President of Indian Motorcycle. “The amount of technology and level of detail packed into this bike is incredible, and it’s something we’re extremely proud of.”
