New spearheads of the Honda naked bike family: the Honda CB1000 Hornet and CB1000 Hornet SP (model year 2025)

Honda is expanding its Hornet range for 2025 with two new top-of-the-range models: the CB1000 Hornet and the high-end CB1000 Hornet SP variant.  These naked bikes take the famous Hornet series to a new level with revised engines, state-of-the-art technology and high-quality equipment.  The SP version in particular stands out with exclusive components and increased performance.

Design and performance

Both models are powered by a 1000 cc four-cylinder engine, which was originally installed in the CBR1000RR Fireblade.  In the CB1000 Hornet, the engine delivers 152 hp (111.6 kW) at 11,000 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm.  The SP model produces 157 hp (115.6 kW) and 107 Nm of torque, which is due to a special exhaust flap control system that improves the gas flow and thus provides additional power.

An advanced throttle-by-wire system offers three pre-configured driving modes: Sport, Standard and Rain, which combine different settings for engine power, traction control and engine braking.  There are also two individually customizable user modes.  A quickshifter is standard for the SP version, which enables fast gear changes without a clutch.

Frame and chassis

The 2025 CB1000 Hornet and its SP version are based on a new double-loop steel frame, which offers greater torsional rigidity and thus ensures precise handling.  The CB1000 Hornet is equipped with a 41 mm Showa SFF-BP upside-down fork and a Showa monoshock, while the SP features an Öhlins TTX36 shock absorber for the rear suspension.  Brembo Stylema four-piston brake callipers on the front axle together with floating 310 mm brake discs ensure powerful deceleration.

Technology and electronics

Another highlight of both models is the 5-inch TFT color display with “optical bonding” technology, which is easy to read even in direct sunlight.  RoadSync connectivity enables connection to a smartphone and voice-controlled operation via Bluetooth.  In addition, both bikes are equipped with the ESS emergency brake signal, which automatically activates the indicators in the event of abrupt braking to warn following traffic.

Exclusive features of the CB1000 Hornet SP

The CB1000 Hornet SP is launched with even more exclusive equipment: In addition to the increased engine power, it offers a fully adjustable Showa 41 mm SFF-BP fork, the aforementioned Öhlins TTX36 shock absorber and a completely revised brake system.  Visually, the SP version stands out with its exclusive paint finish in Mat Ballistic Black Metallic and gold-colored rims.

Availability and color options

The Honda CB1000 Hornet is available in three color variants:

  • – Grand Prix Red
  • – Mat Iridium Gray Metallic
  • – Pearl Glare White

The CB1000 Hornet SP, on the other hand, is available exclusively in Mat Ballistic Black Metallic.

Conclusion

With the new CB1000 Hornet models, Honda is launching powerful and technically mature naked bikes onto the market.  While the standard version already impresses with its powerful performance and modern design, the CB1000 Hornet SP takes the riding experience to a higher level with even more power and premium components.
