With the new Panigale V4, Ducati presents a further development of its successful superbike series.  This seventh generation of the Panigale combines modern technology, sophisticated design and high performance.  Inspired by the racetrack and optimized for the road, the new Panigale V4 offers a comprehensive riding experience.  Let's take a closer look at the new model.

Design and aerodynamics

Aerodynamic integration

The design of the new Panigale V4 was developed in close collaboration between the Centro Stile Ducati and the engineers at Ducati Corse.  The focus was on aerodynamic efficiency and aesthetic design.  The Panigale V4’s fairing reduces drag by 4% and protects the rider on straight sections of track with a “bubble” of calm air.

Inspired by the Ducati 916

The designers were inspired by the legendary Ducati 916 and combined its iconic lines with modern ergonomic and aerodynamic solutions.  The front section is characterized by striking twin headlights and a central air intake, while the rear offers more space and comfort for the rider.

Ergonomics and driving comfort

Seating position and integration

The seating position of the Panigale V4 has been designed to allow the rider maximum integration with the aerodynamics of the motorcycle and to improve control during crucial riding phases.  The seat-tank composite offers more freedom of movement and facilitates positioning in the fairing.  The footrests have been moved inwards by 10 mm to increase ground clearance and improve aerodynamic efficiency.

Improved control and comfort

The rear tank section, combined with the side covers and seat shape, better supports the rider during braking, turning and cornering without compromising freedom of movement in other phases.  This configuration allows the rider to anchor themselves better with their knees to compensate for deceleration and make it easier to get out of the saddle when cornering.  This reduces the strain on the arms and reduces general fatigue.

Powerful V4 motor

Technical specifications

The new Panigale V4 is powered by the Desmosedici Stradale engine, a 90° V4 with desmodromic valve timing and counter-rotating crankshaft.  The engine produces 216 hp (159 kW) at 13,500 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of 123 Nm at 11,250 rpm.  With the optional racing exhaust system from Akrapovič, the output can be increased to up to 228 hp (167 kW).

Further developed engine technology

The Desmosedici Stradale engine of the Panigale V4 has been further developed with new cam profiles and a higher valve lift.  The engine is also equipped with a lightweight alternator stator and an oil pump, which have been adopted from the Panigale V4 R.  The intake funnels have variable lengths and have been optimized for the new engine speed configuration.

Chassis and handling

New double-sided swingarm

The new Panigale V4 has a double-sided swingarm, known as the “Ducati Hollow Symmetrical Swingarm”.  This design reduces weight and improves traction and stability.  The swingarm is 16 mm longer and reduces torsional rigidity by 37%, which should improve power transfer to the road and race track.

Advanced suspension

The suspension of the V4 S version is equipped with semi-active Öhlins NPX-30/TTX36 suspensions.  These offer a wide range of settings and are designed to enable a precise and fast response in any riding situation.  The standard version of the Panigale V4 is equipped with a fully adjustable Showa fork and a Sachs shock absorber.

Optimized geometry

The new swingarm length and the modified geometry of the front frame result in a longer wheelbase of 1,485 mm.  The steering head angle has been changed to 66 degrees, resulting in a 98 mm caster.  These adjustments are intended to improve the handling and stability of the motorcycle.

Brakes and electronics

Brembo HypureTM brake calipers

The new Panigale V4 is the first production motorcycle to be fitted with Brembo HypureTM brake calipers.  These calipers are lighter and offer improved heat dissipation.  Combined with 330 mm brake discs at the front and a 245 mm disc at the rear, the braking system is designed to offer high and constant braking performance.

Electronic assistance systems

The Panigale V4’s electronic package includes advanced control systems such as Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Slide Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Ducati Power Launch and Engine Brake Control.  These systems are supported by the Ducati Vehicle Observer (DVO), which monitors over 70 parameters and optimizes performance in real time.

New Race eCBS system

The new Race eCBS system distributes the braking force electronically between the front and rear wheels.  Adjustable in seven stages, it can apply up to 15.5% of the maximum brake pressure to the rear brake when the handbrake lever is actuated.  This system should offer particular advantages at low lean angles and in tight bends.

Instrumentation and user interface

New 6.9-inch TFT display

The new Panigale V4 is equipped with a 6.9-inch TFT display that offers maximum readability without obstructing the view through the windshield.  The display uses optical bonding technology to minimize reflections and ensure a clear display in daylight.

Info Mode Track and Road

The display offers two main modes: Track mode for the racetrack and Road mode for road use.  Track mode displays a range of parameters such as the “g-meter”, current inclination, engine power and torque in real time.  Road mode offers a clean display with a central tachometer and additional information such as speed, time, water temperature and cruise control.

Data logging with the Ducati Data Logger

The new Ducati Data Logger (DDL) system records all relevant riding parameters and enables a detailed analysis of performance on the race track.  The system uses a modern GPS receiver to precisely record the lines ridden and then evaluates the data using special software.

Differences between the Ducati Panigale V4 and the Panigale V4 S in detail

The new Ducati Panigale V4 is available in two main models: the Panigale V4 and the Panigale V4 S.  The main difference between the two models lies in the chassis equipment and some weight savings.  The Panigale V4 is equipped with a fully adjustable Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF) and a Sachs monoshock, while the V4 S version is equipped with semi-active Öhlins NPX-30/TTX36 suspensions, which allow for more precise and faster adjustment in different riding situations.  The V4 S also features forged aluminum wheels and a lighter lithium-ion battery, which reduces the overall weight.  Both models are equipped with the Desmosedici Stradale V4 engine, which produces 216 hp (159 kW), but the V4 S is equipped with additional electronics such as the Öhlins Smart EC 3.0 control system.  There is also a difference in weight between the two models: the Panigale V4 has a dry weight of 191 kg, while the Panigale V4 S weighs just 187 kg.  Both models offer advanced electronics and a comprehensive safety package, but the V4 S stands out due to its high-quality chassis equipment and lower weight.

Availability and prices

The new Ducati Panigale V4 will be available from dealers from September 2024.  Prices start at 27,790 euros (approx. 31,050 USD) for the standard version and 34,790 euros (approx. 38,920 USD) for the V4 S version.  These models offer extensive improvements and advanced technology that justify the price.

Conclusion

The new Ducati Panigale V4 represents a comprehensive further development of the previous models.  With modern technical solutions, a sophisticated design and a powerful engine, it offers a wide range of applications both on the road and on the racetrack.  With this new generation, Ducati wants to show that it remains at the forefront of motorcycle technology.
