To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Multistrada family, Ducati presents the Multistrada V4 RS.  This latest model in the Multistrada range is produced in a numbered series and represents a combination of various latest technologies and design elements.

Technical details

At the heart of the Multistrada V4 RS is the 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale engine.  It has been designed to offer a smooth power delivery at low revs and to unleash its sporty characteristics at higher revs.  The engine reaches a maximum power of 180 hp at 13,500 rpm.

In terms of design, the motorcycle features a techno-polymer construction for the slim rear end and a titanium rear frame, resulting in a weight reduction of 2.5 kg compared to standard models.  Carbon components and an Iceberg White paint finish round out the exterior appearance.

Something Ducati is keen to highlight is the sound of the Desmosedici Stradale, enhanced by an Akrapovič muffler.  To optimize comfort, the air ducts that direct fresh air to the rider’s legs can be closed when needed.  A billet aluminum dry clutch is also part of the equipment, providing improved handling.

Electronic equipment of the Multistrada V4 RS

Another point that makes the Multistrada V4 RS stand out is the state-of-the-art electronics package it inherits from the Multistrada V4 S.  At the heart of this technology are the radar systems fitted as standard at the front and rear.  These support innovative safety functions such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).

The heart of the electronics system comes from Bosch’s inertial measurement platform, which allows various driving functions to be controlled.  These include four power modes (Full, High, Medium, Low), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Engine Brake Control (EBC) and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up&Down.  All systems are tuned to the motorcycle and integrated into four different riding modes: Race, Sport, Touring and Urban.

A new feature is the Power Mode Full, which is linked by default to the Riding Mode Race and is indicated by a checkered flag above the name.  It allows maximum power in all gears combined with direct throttle response.  The other Power Modes are calibrated specifically for the Multistrada V4, with different power and torque curves coming into play depending on the mode.

To fine-tune the riding experience, the Multistrada V4 RS also offers a three-stage Engine Brake Control (EBC) setting that allows riders to customize the level of engine braking.

The bike’s display and operation also benefit from advanced technology.  The TFT display with 6.5-inch screen received special graphics and offers map navigation thanks to Ducati Connect and smartphone mirroring.  A ventilated compartment for the smartphone ensures that the device stays cool during intensive use.

Chassis and ergonomics of the Multistrada V4 RS

The chassis of the Multistrada V4 RS features some technical specifications.  At the center is the 17-inch front wheel, chosen for its steering precision and responsiveness.  In this regard, the inclination of the steering head differs from other models in the series.

Also relevant to the handling are the aluminum rims from Marchesini, which have a lower weight than those of the V4 S.  In combination with the Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires, a balance between grip and ground feel is sought.

The Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension is another aspect of this bike.  It adapts to different riding styles and can be used in both sporty and more relaxed riding situations.  The braking system, inspired by the Panigale V4, uses Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers and a Bosch-Brembo 10.3ME cornering ABS system.

To optimize weight, not only were carbon and titanium elements used, but a smaller battery was also installed.  Overall, this saved 3 kg compared to the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak.  In terms of ergonomics, it is noticeable that a sportier seating position has been chosen than on other models in the series . Footpegs, handlebars and grips have been designed to be used both for sporty riding and touring.  The goal is a balance between performance and comfort.

Accessories and customization of the Multistrada V4 RS.

The Ducati Performance catalog presents a wide range of optional equipment to customize both the functionality and aesthetics of the Multistrada V4 RS.  For riders looking to optimize the bike’s storage space, various luggage options are available – including side panniers in a variety of materials, tank bags and expandable pillion seat bags, as well as a choice of windshields.

In addition to the functional equipment, owners who want to emphasize the sporty character of their motorcycle can choose from a range of billet aluminum parts.  This includes levers, footpegs and various covers. Carbon details are also available for a sportier look.
