The legacy continues: from DesertX to DesertX Rally

In Borgo Panigale, Italy, Ducati raised the curtain on the DesertX Rally in October 2023, a model that should prove interesting to more than just hardcore bikers.  This motorcycle conveys its off-road nature with its iconic livery and technical equipment that is predestined for even off-road riding.  The chassis is specially designed to withstand even the toughest obstacles, while the increase in ground clearance to 280 mm allows it to master the most difficult surfaces.

Equipment that makes the difference

With a front of 21-inch and rear of 18-inch rims, the DesertX Rally heads for a terrain that should be familiar to all those who like to chase their motorcycles through the dirt.  The specific solutions, from the high front fender to the Kayaba suspensions with closed cartridge forks and the centrally aligned spoke wheels, mark the Rally as a bike designed for the most extreme adventures.  Composed of a lightweight and strong forged carbon protection plate, transmission levers and a solid rear brake lever, it’s clear that this is a bike ready to take on challenges.

Technology that rides in the fast lane

The DesertX Rally scores with a suspension designed to tackle even the toughest obstacles, further enhancing the already impressive off-road capability of the standard DesertX.  This uses technology that applies pressure to the oil inside the cartridges to prevent cavitation, ensuring homogeneous and constant front suspension behavior and the support needed for extreme missions.  The 5-inch TFT color screen, high-resolution and vertically oriented, offers optimal visibility even when riding standing up and is designed to integrate with the Ducati Multimedia System, which allows connection with the smartphone.

A heart that beats for off-road

With its 937 cc Ducati Testastretta 11° twin-cylinder, equipped with desmodromic distribution and offering a peak power output of 110 hp (approximately 108 hp, 82 kW) at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm, the DesertX Rally puts considerable power to the ground.  At the same time, the power unit has been optimized to make it particularly suitable for off-road use thanks to a special ratio and special strategies and calibrations of the electronic systems.  The DesertX Rally’s six riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro, Rally) feature Cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and have been adapted to the new chassis and for more demanding off-road use.

Accessories for the extra mile

Off the line, the DesertX Rally can also be customized with a wide range of accessories to prepare it for riders’ own personal adventures.  From an additional 8-liter fuel tank that increases range by nearly 40% to aluminum side panniers that offer a capacity of nearly 120 liters when combined with the top case, everything is included to explore even the most remote corners of the world.  LED auxiliary headlights and heated grips are just a few of the options that long-distance riders will appreciate, while tubular steel engine guards protect the tank and engine from crashes or impacts during off-road use.

The DesertX Rally will be available at dealers in January 2024.
