Premeliminary Report – Dakar 2018
[sam id=”2″ codes=”true”]From 6 to 20 January, the Dakar 2018 will take place. This is the 40th edition of the Rally for Cars, Motorcycles, Quads and Trucks. It goes through 14 stages and almost 9,000 km through terrain that is not ideal for motorsport. After five years, the Dakar returns to South America for the tenth time. The start is in Peru. An easy entry is not the desert parts and the big dunes. Then it goes via Bolivia to Argentina.
- 7 stages will be 100 percent dunes/off-piste
- 1 marathon stage for all categories
- 1 extra marathon stage exclusively for bikes and quads
- Over 4,500km of timed special stage
- Nearly 4,500km of liaison sections
- 5 days at an altitude of more than 3,000 metres above sea level.
Last year’s winner Sam Sunderland will start with the number 1 and is looking forward to the race. He and vice-champion Matthias Walkner compete with the new KTM 450 Rally. It should be faster, more powerful and easier to drive than the old model. Walkner does not want to settle for second place this year but has been struggling with health problems in recent days.
There will be no live broadcast of the Dakar 2018. Eurosport will show a summary. Of course you will be informed regularly in the motorcycles news here.
