BMW F 450 GS: All the information about BMW’s new mid-range enduro bike

With the F 450 GS, BMW Motorrad is expanding its adventure portfolio with a new mid-range model that is primarily aimed at A2 riders and fans of modern technology. Following the great response to the sporty concept bike at EICMA 2024, numerous details of the production version are now known thanks to design patents, spy photos, and manufacturer information. The market launch is scheduled for spring 2026.

Significant differences between concept and production model

The first images released from patent drawings and prototype tests show that the final production model of the BMW F 450 GS differs more significantly from the concept bike than BMW had initially indicated. The design in particular reflects the adaptation to the requirements of a motorcycle suitable for everyday use, for example with rear-view mirrors, turn signals, reflectors, and a more stable license plate holder. The rear is wider and appears less sporty, which is mainly due to the requirements for two-person comfort and luggage transport. The exhaust system is now also positioned lower and complies with the Euro 5+ standard.

Technology: Modern parallel twin and two transmission variants

At the heart of the F 450 GS is a completely newly developed, water-cooled in-line twin cylinder with a displacement of around 450 cm³. The power output is 48 hp (35 kW) at an estimated 8,500 rpm, thus exactly meeting the requirements of the European A2 driving licence class. According to current information, the maximum curb weight is stated as around 178 kg (equivalent to 392 lbs) including a 14-liter fuel tank, although some sources also mention 175 kg (386 lbs).
A special feature is the choice of transmission: in addition to a classic manual transmission, a version with semi-automatic shift assistance (ASA – Automated Shift Assistant) is to be available. This system, already familiar from larger BMW models, is to be specially adapted for the F 450 GS and will make it easier for newcomers in particular to get started.

Chassis, brakes, and equipment

The chassis is based on the large R 1300 GS and features a steel trellis frame with a bolt-on rear frame, an aluminum rear swing arm, a central shock absorber, and an upside-down telescopic fork at the front. The wheel sizes are 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear, and the wheelbase is specified as 1,465 mm. While the concept bike still had cross-spoke wheels, the production model has cast wheels – noticeably more suitable for everyday use, but less off-road oriented. The cross-spoke wheels are to be available as an option.
The brake system is equipped with one disc per wheel and lean-sensitive ABS. It is not yet known which suppliers will provide the brake components – Brembo or the Indian Brembo sub-label Bybre.
Features include a large 6.5-inch TFT display with connectivity, windshield, hand guards, and adjustable hand levers. Electronic assistance systems, various riding modes, and an optional quickshifter round out the technology package.

Production, market launch, and pricing

Global production of the BMW F 450 GS is based at partner TVS Motor Company in Hosur, India. From there, the model will be delivered globally, with a market launch shortly after the official presentation, which is planned for EICMA in November 2025.
The base version of the F 450 GS is estimated to cost around 4 lakh Indian rupees (approx. €4,400 / approx. $4,800). The version with semi-automatic transmission is expected to be priced higher. For comparison: the predecessor BMW G 310 GS was last offered from €6,600 (approx. $7,200), although the new model will have to remain competitively priced. Competitors include the CFMoto 450 MT (from €5,990 / approx. $6,500) and the upcoming Aprilia Tuareg 457.

Variants and outlook

The F 450 GS forms the basis for a new mid-range platform at BMW Motorrad. In addition to the enduro, a naked bike (F 450 R) and a fully faired sports version (F 450 RR) are also in the pipeline. However, a retro variant is not currently planned.
BMW is positioning the F 450 GS as a compact adventure and touring motorcycle that will appeal to both newcomers and experienced riders with its modern technology and low weight. The final presentation will take place in November 2025, with the market launch in Europe planned for spring 2026.
