BMW Concept F 450 GS 5

BMW F 450 GS – Compact adventure bike with technical options announced for 2025

BMW Motorrad is expanding its adventure portfolio with a new mid-range model: The BMW F 450 GS is set to be officially unveiled at the end of 2025 and is aimed primarily at riders who value lower weight and modern technology. Numerous details have already been revealed in advance, suggesting a versatile and advanced machine.

New 450cc inline twin-cylinder engine with modern technology

At the heart of the new F 450 GS is a completely newly developed parallel twin engine with a displacement of 450 cm³. The power output is specified as 47.3 hp (approx. 34.8 kW), which complies with the requirements for an A2 driver’s license. The maximum torque has not yet been officially announced, but is said to be sufficient for everyday and touring use. The motorcycle has a ready-to-ride weight of 175 kg (approx. 386 lbs), which is competitive for the mid-range class.

Two transmission options: manual or semi-automatic

A special feature is the planned choice of transmission: buyers will be able to choose between a classic gearshift and a semi-automatic version with Automated Shift Assistant (ASA). This system, which is already used in larger BMW models, will be specially adapted for the F 450 GS. The aim is to make it easier for beginners and younger riders to operate, thereby opening up new target groups.

Chassis and equipment features

The chassis is based on its big brother, the R 1300 GS. The F 450 GS is also equipped with a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel combination. This suggests a touring-focused design with good on- and off-road characteristics. Technical highlights include various riding modes, the option of a quickshifter, and numerous other electronic assistance systems. According to BMW, this means that despite its compact design and smaller engine, the bike offers the typical GS comfort and versatility.

Production and market launch

Global production of the F 450 GS is planned for the TVS plant in Hosur, India. From there, the bike will be distributed worldwide. A sales launch for the Indian market is planned shortly after the world premiere. The presentation of the production version is scheduled for the end of 2025, with some already talking about a market launch in September.

Pricing and variants

According to current estimates, the base model will be priced at around 4 lakh Indian rupees (approx. US$4,400). The version with semi-automatic transmission is expected to be positioned above this. In addition, BMW plans to use the new 450 layout as a platform for further models. A naked bike and a sportier touring version are considered likely. However, a classic-inspired retro variant is not currently planned, despite the success of other manufacturers in this segment.

Outlook

The BMW F 450 GS is intended to facilitate entry into the GS world as a compact adventure and touring machine, appealing to both newcomers and experienced riders with its modern technology and various variants. The final presentation will take place at the end of 2025, after which the model will be available in numerous markets.
