The Vincent HRD A-Series Rapide is a very rare motorcycle from 1938. Only 78 of them have ever been built. A very special copy will be auctioned in August.
Only 50 copies left
About 50 copies of the Vincent HRD A-series with the 998cc double engine should still be on the planet. The Bonhams auction house is expected to auction a special copy of the A series during the auction weekend on August 15 and 16 (was originally planned for the end of April).
21 years in the factory, then 60 years with only one owner
It is the demonstration motorcycle with the registration number DUR 142. At the time, it was exactly this specimen that was used for road tests and all advertising photos. It was also the company vehicle of the then Vincent director Bill Clarke.
The motorcycle remained in the factory until 1959. This changed after Harper’s takeover of Vincent. Harper sold everything he didn’t need, including the Vincent HRD A-Series Rapide with registration number DUR 142.
There is a complete documentation for the history of the motorcycle and also some photos from that time. The machine has been with its current owner since 1960.
It is believed that the rare motorcycle will be sold at Bonhams Summer Stafford sale for £ 190,000 to £ 200,000. This corresponds to around 218,000 to 252,000 euros or 240,000 to 270,000 US dollars.
