The Cord & Kruse Classic auction house in Midland, Texas, claims to offer for auction probably the most famous motorcycle in the world, the Captain America from the movie Easy Rider.
The motorcycle comes from the estate of Gordon R. Granger. In 1997, it is said to have been authenticated by Dan Haggerty. In the run-up, Haggerty was given the motorcycle in parts by Peter Fonda and rebuilt it. He owned it until 1996 and offered it at the Dan Druse Classic Auto Auction, where Gordon Granger purchased it. It is said to be the one and only true Captain America.
Some doubt the authenticity of the motorcycle. Back in 2014, a “real” Captain America was reportedly sold. Dan Haggerty authenticated this in advance, but withdrew the authentication shortly before the auction began. The motorcycle was nevertheless sold for $1.4 million.
The auction for “the real” Captain America is scheduled for June 05, 2021.
