Marc Marquez closes a monumental chapter with the Repsol Honda Team, characterized by six world championships, countless records and an unprecedented success story.

The end of an era

Marc Marquez, a name that is almost synonymous with the Repsol Honda Team in the world of MotoGP, closes an important chapter in his career.  After an extraordinary time with the team, which included six world championships, 59 victories and a total of 2,626 points, Marquez has ended his journey with the HRC team.  The Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana, the 20th race of the 2023 MotoGP season, provided a platform to reflect on and pay tribute to this impressive era.

A success story

Marquez’s career with the Repsol Honda Team is characterized by records and outstanding achievements.  His six MotoGP World Championships, five Triple Crowns, 59 Premier Class victories, 101 podiums, 64 pole positions, 59 fastest laps and 2,626 points are testament to an unparalleled dominance of the sport.  Most notably, he is Honda’s most successful driver in terms of wins in the premier class and total number of victories in all classes.  He also holds the record for the second most pole positions in the Premier class and in all Grand Prix classes.

Immediate success and challenges

Marquez and the Repsol Honda Team achieved success almost immediately after joining forces in 2013.  Marquez became the youngest winner in the premier class and won the world championship in his rookie year.  The following years were characterized by further victories, new records and occasional setbacks, as in the challenging 2015 season.

Return and records

2016 marked Marquez’s return to the top with his third world championship title.  The years 2017 and 2018 followed a similar pattern.  His performance in 2019 set new standards, not just for the Repsol Honda Team, but for the whole of MotoGP, as he finished in the top two in every round he completed.

Overcoming injuries

Marquez’s true fighting spirit showed in the years following his heavy crash at the Spanish GP in Jerez in 2020, returning to the top step of the podium at the Sachsenring after 581 days and proving that the spirit and speed of a champion never fades. Further victories followed, despite renewed injuries.

A circular finish

Marquez’s final race at Valencia, where he completed his first test on the Honda RC213V and secured his first world championship, provided a circular conclusion to his time with the team.

Future prospects

As Marquez begins a new phase of his career, the Repsol Honda team looks forward to the challenges that 2024 will bring, including the exciting clashes with Marquez.

Summary

The partnership between Marc Marquez and the Repsol Honda Team remains one of the most successful and unique in all of motorsport history.  Their story is one of victories, records, challenges and an unwavering winning mentality.  As Marquez embarks on new paths, the legacy he has created with the Repsol Honda Team will remain unforgotten.
