Honda EV FUN Concept: Brand’s first electric motorcycle undergoes final testing in Europe

Honda is consistently pushing ahead with the development of its first fully-fledged electric motorcycle. At EICMA 2024, the Japanese manufacturer presented the EV FUN Concept, a near-production model that is now being tested under real-world conditions in Europe, particularly in Germany. The final production version is expected to be launched in 2026.

Europe-wide test drives with pre-production models

Intensive test drives with camouflaged prototypes of the EV FUN Concept have been underway in Germany since May 2025. On September 2, 2025, Honda released new images and video footage showing test drives around its Offenbach branch, including local license plates. This final test phase underscores the importance of the European market for the planned model.

Mid-range naked bike with electric drive

The EV FUN Concept is classified as a “mid-range naked bike.” It has a permanently installed battery that can be charged at both CCS2 fast charging stations and Type 2 charging points. Honda emphasizes a new kind of riding experience, which, according to project manager Masatsugu Tanaka, is supposed to be particularly quiet, smooth, and emotional—qualities that, according to him, are only possible with an electric motorcycle.

The development follows the guiding principle “Be the Wind.” The goal is to create unity between rider and machine—according to Honda, a central element of the riding experience of this model.

Technical details: single-sided swing arm, toothed belt, and aluminum frame

Even though specific technical data has been largely withheld so far, a lot can already be deduced from the information available. The EV FUN Concept features an aluminum frame construction with an integrated battery and mid-engine. Particularly noteworthy is the single-sided swing arm – apparently derived from the CB 1000 R – in combination with a low-maintenance toothed belt drive.

This combination should not only offer smoother handling, but also low maintenance costs. The drive is designed so that, despite the long suspension travel, there is no change in the length of the belt during compression and rebound. This is achieved by the coaxial arrangement of the motor shaft and swing arm bearing.

Performance class: Classification in A2 possible

Honda itself describes the new model as comparable to a 750cc motorcycle. This means that, in theory, the EV FUN Concept is similar to the CB 750 Hornet, which is rated at 92 hp (67.7 kW). However, all the information available so far suggests that the e-model’s performance is likely to be lower – partly due to the balance between range and performance.

A peak output of around 70 hp (51.5 kW) with a continuous output of 48 hp (35 kW) seems a realistic target, which would enable classification in the European A2 driving license category. This configuration would be particularly attractive for young drivers or those switching from other vehicles.

Range and charging times: Many questions still unanswered

Honda has so far remained tight-lipped about the range. Initial indications suggest a practical range of around 100 kilometers, which should be sufficient for city traffic and short commutes. One positive feature is the support for fast charging via CCS2, which could enable charging times from 10 to 80 percent within around 20 minutes – based on the figures for current Honda car models.

Production version announced for 2026

Despite the prototypes still being camouflaged, the design seems to be largely finalized. Visually, the model remains close to the concept study from EICMA 2024 – with slim bodywork, LED headlights, and a large TFT display. The latter is likely to offer modern connectivity features such as navigation and smartphone pairing.

Honda has announced the next stage of the unveiling for September 16, 2025, when new details are to follow, possibly without camouflage for the first time. The final production version is expected to be presented to the public at EICMA 2025 in November at the latest.

Conclusion: Honda is taking a cautious approach to electric mobility.

With the EV FUN Concept, Honda is taking a deliberately cautious but consistent path toward electric two-wheeled mobility. Instead of focusing on maximum performance or spectacular ranges, the emphasis is clearly on rideability, quality, and everyday practicality – virtues for which Honda has always been known. Whether the first fully electric model will meet expectations will be seen when it is launched in 2026.
