Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8TT – retro charm and modern performance in the mid-range segment

With the new GSX-8T and GSX-8TT models, Suzuki presents two motorcycles that take up the legacy of legendary machines such as the T500 and bring it into the present. The “Retro Spirit, Next Generation Performance” concept combines classic design with advanced technology, making these models ideal for riders who appreciate both timeless looks and modern performance.

Design and concept: Timeless, innovative, passionate

The development goal for the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT was to reinterpret the essence of motorcycling. Suzuki focused on three guiding principles: “timeless,” “innovative,” and “passionate.” Inspired by classic street racers of the 1960s and 1970s, a design language was chosen that references classic elements with clean lines, round headlights, and an elegantly shaped fuel tank, without falling into nostalgia. The design appears authentic and natural – even with everyday clothing.

The GSX-8T, with its additional “T,” is reminiscent of the nickname “Titan” of the historic T500, while the GSX-8TT, as a sportier version with half fairing, references classic road racers of the 1970s and 1980s.

Engine and technology: Modern parallel twin for a robust character

At the heart of the bike is a 776 cm³ liquid-cooled parallel twin with DOHC, which is established in the current Suzuki mid-range. It delivers 61 kW (83 hp) at 8,500 rpm and provides a maximum torque of 78 Nm at 6,800 rpm. This corresponds to 83 hp (61 kW) and 78 Newton meters (Nm). The 270-degree crankshaft ensures a characteristic sound and powerful response even at low revs. The innovative Suzuki Cross Balancer contributes to smooth engine operation.

The engine complies with the Euro 5+ standard and, according to the manufacturer, offers fuel consumption of 4.2 l/100 km (equivalent to 23.8 km/l). An electronic ride-by-wire throttle system, supported by assistance systems such as traction control and selectable riding modes, ensures dynamic and controllable power delivery.

Chassis and ergonomics: comfort and agility for everyday use and touring

A robust steel tube frame forms the basis. Together with high-quality KYB suspension elements and a lightweight aluminum swing arm, this results in balanced handling that offers both stability at higher speeds and agility in city traffic. The GSX-8T has a ready-to-ride weight of 201 kg (443 lbs), while the GSX-8TT with fairing weighs 203 kg (445 lbs). The tank capacity is 16.5 liters, which allows for a long range.

The seat height is 815 mm (GSX-8T) and 810 mm (GSX-8TT). The wide, tapered handlebars ensure an upright seating position, while the shape of the tank and seat offer plenty of freedom of movement and long-distance comfort.

Equipment and electronics: Modern features without overload

Both models are equipped with the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). This includes:

  • Three riding modes (Suzuki Drive Mode Selector)
  • Three-stage traction control plus off function
  • Electronic ride-by-wire throttle system
  • Bidirectional quickshifter (clutchless shifting)
  • Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • Easy-start system and low-RPM assist for easy starting

A color TFT display (5 inches) clearly shows a wide range of information. For everyday use, Suzuki offers practical details such as a USB-C charging socket and a high-quality HY battEliiy P-series starter battery, which is three kilograms lighter than a conventional battery.

Model variants and differences

GSX-8T

The GSX-8T features a distinctive, classically inspired round headlight with modern LED technology, stylish bar-end mirrors, and a tuck-and-roll seat that visually references classic quilted stitching. An elegantly shaped fuel tank and black engine covers underscore the retro look.

GSX-8TT

The GSX-8TT stands out with its sporty half fairing on the round headlight and a specially designed engine spoiler. The design references the color scheme of classic racing bikes from the 1970s and 1980s, complemented by a two-tone seat with decorative stitching and single-color wheels.
