Stark Future announces electric road motorcycles – with the aim of outperforming gasoline-powered bikes in all areas

Barcelona-based company Stark Future wants to shake up the road motorcycle market with a new electric model series. According to the company, the upcoming models will be more powerful than their gasoline-powered counterparts – in all relevant categories.

“Most people don’t believe that an electric road motorcycle can be competitive,” explains founder and CEO Anton Wass. “When we unveil our models, that perception will change.”

Off-road experience – the basis for the next step

Stark Future first attracted attention at the end of 2021 when it unveiled its first model, the Varg – an electric motocross bike that, weighing around 110 kg (approx. 243 lbs) and with an output of 80 hp (59 kW), was set to raise the bar in the off-road sector. The drive delivered instant torque, which, according to the manufacturer, gave the bike a significant advantage over 450cc four-stroke machines.

The material concept was also ambitious: the frame was made of carbon and magnesium, among other materials, while a 6 kWh battery was designed to provide a range of up to six hours with moderate riding – or about 35 minutes under racing conditions.

The model has since been further developed into the second-generation Varg MX 1.2. In addition to an enlarged 7.2 kWh battery for up to 20% more range, the suspension, chassis, and transmission have been redesigned. The in-house Arkenstone display has also been improved – it now not only controls the motorcycle, but can also be used as a GPS lap timer and smartphone.

Successful sales figures and rapid expansion

The further development of the off-road portfolio was accompanied by rapid growth: in the second quarter of 2025, Stark recorded sales of 47 million euros (approx. 51 million US dollars) and EBITDA of 4.5 million euros (approx. 4.9 million US dollars). This corresponds to around 5,000 vehicles delivered within a quarter.

“We are very pleased with this progress,” explains Wass. “We are the fastest-growing company in Spain – ever.”

When it launched in December 2021, the company had already collected nearly $9 million (approx. €8.3 million) in pre-orders within one day with the original Varg.

Supermoto variant in the works – first conversions already in circulation

Parallel to the development of road models, Stark is working on a Supermoto version of the Varg. The first customers have already made their own modifications. Anton Wass confirms: “We tested the vehicle for a very long time – and I can say that the riding experience is incredible. All that torque, all that power – it hits you immediately.”

Road motorcycles for global markets – production to be decentralized

No specific technical details about the upcoming road models are available yet. However, it is clear that Stark is planning several models for different target markets. Production is to take place close to the location: while larger premium bikes for Europe will continue to be produced at the plant near Barcelona, models for Asian markets will be manufactured locally.

“The most popular models in Asia differ significantly from those in Europe,” explains Wass. Accordingly, Stark plans to manufacture the respective model variants where the demand arises. The main plant’s production capacity is around 150,000 units per year.

Cooperation with Royal Enfield – support with scaling

Since the end of 2022, Royal Enfield (via its parent company Eicher Motors Ltd) has held a 50 million euro (approx. 54 million US dollar) stake in the company. As part of the collaboration, Stark is supporting the electrification of Royal Enfield’s models – including the “Flying Flea” concept, which was unveiled at EICMA 2024 and is expected to hit the market in 2026.

“We are helping them transition to electric mobility and they are helping us scale our business,” says Wass. There are also other partnerships, but without in-depth research and development collaboration.

Racing: progress, but also hurdles

Despite technical innovations, getting into racing was not easy. “In 2021, we were not allowed to participate in any competitions – the rules required gasoline engines,” explains Wass. In the meantime, their use has been permitted in most countries.

“Some major manufacturers are apparently trying to prevent us from showing that electric drives can be superior,” he suspects. Nevertheless, he sees progress.

Stark now competes in the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship and finished fifth in his first full season. Further racing series are set to follow in 2026 – however, entry into the MXGP is considered unlikely due to regulations and internal resistance.
