The Isle of Man TT will welcome a new addition to its race organisation in 2025: Dave Molyneux, the most successful sidecar competitor in TT history, has been appointed to an official role following his retirement from racing earlier this year.

A Legend Shifts Gears

After an extraordinary career boasting 17 TT victories, Molyneux retired from competition at the end of the 2024 TT event, concluding with his 31st and final podium finish.  Forty years after his debut on the iconic Mountain Course, Molyneux now embarks on a new chapter as he steps into the roles of Sidecar Liaison Officer and Technical Delegate for ACU Events Ltd., the organiser of the Isle of Man TT Races.

A Dual Role with Clear Focus

As Sidecar Liaison Officer, Molyneux will serve as the primary connection between the race organisers, promoters, and the sidecar competitors.  Additionally, he will play a key role in supporting and mentoring newcomer sidecar drivers during their training process at the TT.

In his role as Technical Delegate, Molyneux will collaborate with the event’s Technical Directors to shape the regulations and refine the rulebook for the sidecar class going forward.

Reactions to the Appointment

Gary Thompson MBE BEM, Clerk of the Course, expressed his enthusiasm for Molyneux’s new role:
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dave into the Race Organisation.  Across both two wheels and three, he is one of the greatest competitors to ever compete at the TT, and I’m certain that his experience as a competitor and knowledge as an engineer will prove invaluable across the race organisation.”

Molyneux also shared his excitement about this next phase in his career:
“Competing at the TT has meant everything to me for over 40 years, so calling time on my racing was always going to be a tough decision, but the podium this year was the perfect sign off.  It then became a question of ‘what next,’ and I’m really pleased to have been asked to bring my experience into an official capacity.”

He also highlighted the current strength of the sidecar class at the TT:
“Sidecars at the TT are in a really good position at the moment.  Obviously there are some new names at the top, but there are also some really promising newcomers coming on to the scene, and I’m really looking forward to helping them however I can and helping the class develop as a whole in to the future.”

A New Era for the TT

Dave Molyneux’s appointment represents an exciting opportunity for the Isle of Man TT, particularly for the sidecar category.  With his extensive experience as both a competitor and an engineer, his influence could pave the way for the continued growth and development of this unique racing discipline.
