Razgatlioglu and the early title win
Toprak Razgatlioglu traveled to Jerez de la Frontera with a comfortable lead in the overall standings. A second place in the first main race on Saturday was enough for him to secure the world championship title. But the ambitious Turk wanted more. In the Superpole race on Sunday, he finished second again before taking another victory in the last main race of the season. This was Razgatlioglu’s 18th triumph of the season and catapulted him to the top of Superbike racing for good.
Van der Mark, who also had a strong weekend after two sixth places, made it onto the podium in the final race of the season. It was his second podium finish of the season, having already taken victory in Magny-Cours.
Farewell for the Bonovo action BMW Racing Team
The Bonovo action BMW Racing Team also experienced its last race weekend with the BMW M 1000 RR in Jerez before the collaboration comes to an end after four years. Garrett Gerloff finished the season with two seventh places, while his team-mate Scott Redding ended the weekend with two twelfth places.
Successful year for BMW Motorrad Motorsport
Overall, the BMW M 1000 RR riders can look back on a successful season. With 19 victories and twelve further podium finishes, BMW secured second place in the manufacturers’ standings of WorldSBK 2024.
Comments on the season finale
Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, was overwhelmed after the successful weekend:
“To be honest, I’m speechless. This is a moment in which Toprak and all of us together have made history. […] The world championship title means a lot to everyone in the company. We are very grateful to Toprak and all the many others who have contributed.”
Toprak Razgatlioglu also had nothing but words of praise:
“I would like to thank the entire BMW family, because we have had an incredible year. […] We changed the set-up of the bike and tried something to get the win. In the race I had a very good package and we did it – we won again.”
Michael van der Mark was also happy about the end of the season:
“This year was a dream come true for BMW and the whole team with the world title. […] Even though the last two years have been unfortunate, they have continued to believe in me. […] To end the season in this way – with the world title, his victory in the last race and me on the podium – was fantastic for everyone at BMW.”
Outlook for next season
There is little time for BMW Motorrad Motorsport to rest on its laurels. On the Tuesday after the season finale, the team will begin preparations for the coming season. With the clear goal of defending the title in 2025, BMW is starting the test phase full of motivation.
