Triumph remains the heartbeat of Moto2
For a decade now, Triumph-built three-cylinder engines have been a central element of the FIM Moto2 Championship. But as Steve Sargeant, Chief Product Officer at Triumph, points out, the British brand will not simply rest on its laurels. A significant step in this class is the development of a new transmission for the 765cc inline three-cylinder. This gives teams and riders more options during a Grand Prix weekend and increases safety by switching to a special race shift pattern.
At this point, Moto2 bikes are among the few in the paddock that still use a street shift pattern – first gear, idle, second gear, etc. The main problem with this is that on tracks where first gear is needed, riders run the risk of unintentionally engaging neutral. This new shift pattern is designed to prevent just that by positioning neutral at the bottom of the gearbox, so it can only be engaged intentionally by the driver.
